Disaster Ready Quad Cities is offering the Volunteer Reception Center Training Workshop for individuals in the Quad Cities Region. This training and exercise will provide participants from local agencies and organizations that have a role in coordinating and/or utilizing spontaneous volunteers during a disaster. Participants will have the opportunity to work together as a unified team in establishing, managing, and demobilizing a Volunteer Reception Center.
The training will be led by Abby Lillpop, National EDEN (Extension Disaster Education Network) Project Coordinator, Purdue University Extension Disaster Specialist, Indiana VOA Vice President.

Through this two-session workshop, you will learn to create a simple disaster action plan that mitigates the risks to your facilities and clients; help you understand and evaluate your organization’s specific risks for disaster; and, help you become more proactive in helping your residents, clients, and staff survive and thrive during disaster situations.
This two-part workshop will be held on two consecutive Tuesdays:
Session #1 – February 23, 2021, 1:30 pm to 3 pm
Session #2 – March 2, 2021, 1:30 pm to 3 pm
Once you have completed the workshop, your organization will be able to schedule a virtual technical assistance conference with University of Illinois Extension staff who will help you in the development of your organization’s own disaster action plan. 

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation wants to ensure that Illinois consumers are aware of COVID-19 relief options that are available to them. Today, IDFPR released an educational one pager for consumers to quickly and easily learn about their federal relief options when it comes to evictions, mortgages, and student loans. “At this unprecedented time of financial hardship, it is essential that consumers know and understand their options. Through our agency’s outreach, we hope to ensure that every Illinois resident takes advantage of the relief they qualify for,” said IDFPR Secretary Deborah Hagan. Federal deadlines are fast approaching. It is imperative that consumers take action quickly.

The State of Iowa has received federal funding from FEMA to offer free virtual counseling and assistance to those affected, in any way, by COVID-19. Counseling sessions with virtual counselors are available by video, chat or phone. COVID Recovery Iowa provides counseling, virtual activities, referrals and help finding resources to any Iowan seeking assistance or a listening ear.

​Iowans of all ages may join groups online to find support and learn creative strategies for coping with the effects of the pandemic. COVID Recovery Iowa will announce additional programs in the coming weeks to help Iowans build coping skills and resilience. Click here for more information.
